This space celebrates my deep love for food by bringing you original recipes, adaptations and attempts at the recipes of others, reviews of Austin's best restaurants and musings on every and anything food. I am a self-taught home cook who has years and years of practice in my kitchen. I deeply believe that with a little practice "any one can cook." You don't have to be a professional chef to create healthy and incredibly delicious food from scratch and using fresh, high quality ingredients in your own home.My fondest memories are of me sitting on a bar stool on the other side of the kitchen counter watching both my mom and dad make their respective food specialties. I carefully watched my dad construct his Sunday omelets and fall chili and helped my mom with her weekly routine of stuffed peppers, baked chicken and spaghetti and meatballs. As a teenager, I eagerly asked if it was okay for me to cook a dinner or two. I started off small. My first dishes where beef tacos with a little help from an Old El Paso taco kit and homemade spaghetti and meatballs (with a little help from jarred sauce). These simple early meals opened the door to many years of experimentation in the kitchen.

During college I moved from waiting tables to working as a line cook. I loved learning more about cooking and really adored cooking for money. However, I soon found that cleaning a restaurant kitchen and working restaurant hours were not for me. After college, I toyed with the idea of culinary school. I even registered and bought my equipment, but soon decided that I would rather learn by doing and cook at home for friends and family. Instead, I pursued a Master's degree in History, where my love for writing and learning blossomed. I now work for a university as a counselor and instructor, and I love every minute of it.
In my spare time I use this space to merge my most dear interests: food and writing. I invite you to read, learn and interact. Food is something to be interpreted and shared. Please share your love of food and enjoy! Welcome to Simply Yummy Goodness.
